QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or GED required with secretarial training of considerable variety and complexity.
2. Minimum of five-years of experience is required.
3. Administrative Assistant/Management Assistant experience preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to maintain confidentiality of specified information as required.
2. Ability to conference with visitors in person or on the telephone in a pleasant, courteous manner.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3. Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
4. Ability to use computer skills required to do spreadsheets, word processing, and record keeping.
5. Ability to distribute documents in an efficient and effective manner.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others; team player.
7. Ability to organize materials and maintain accurate records.
8. Demonstrate ability to type 60 words per minute is preferred.
9. Comprehensive knowledge of office procedures, practices, operations, and equipment.
10. Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel, and schools necessary for the
efficient and effective processing of communications.
11. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about
as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares agendas for open work session, regular, and called Board meetings.
2. Coordinates, prepares, and confirms meetings.
3. Serves as backup to the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent.
4. Performs general office duties, such as ordering supplies, maintaining records management database
system, and performing basic bookkeeping work. 5. Coordinates appointments, calendar, registration, and reservations for the Board and the
Superintendent in the absence of a secretary to the Superintendent.
6. Greets visitors or callers and handles inquiries and administrative issues brought to the
Superintendent by the School Board, staff, general public, and federal, state, and local
government.
7. Processes communications and correspondences, distributes mail, faxes documents, and e-mails
related to the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education.
8. Prepares memorandums, letters, reports, and other correspondence for the Board members and the
Superintendent.
9. Prepares and maintains paper and electronic filing system for records, correspondence, and other
materials.
10. Serves as the Superintendent’s secretary in the absence of that secretary.
11. Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to Aesop in a
timely manner.
12. Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
13. Reports to work on time and regularly as designated by work schedule
14. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
15. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board's
Policy Manual, Students First Act and the Board's Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel
