DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION - ELEMENTARY (12 month)
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY CENTRAL OFFICE
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY SCHOOLS
Job Goal:
To provide leadership, direction and supervision in the coordination, development, and improvement of instructional programs and curriculum of the school system.
Qualifications:
1.
Master’s degree from an accredited college/university; doctorate preferred.
2.
Valid Alabama certification in administration/supervision.
3.
Three years (3) of teaching and five (5) years of administrative experience; Principal experience preferred.
4.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
5.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have own transportation to visit schools throughout the system.
6.
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
7.
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
8.
Deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
9.
Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of curriculum and instruction.
10.
Knowledge of courses of study, current trends, and recommended practices in elementary and/or secondary education.
11.
Knowledge of school law, ALSDE regulations, Board policies, and State Department of Education regulations.
12.
Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
13.
Ability to use technology to plan instruction, to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
14.
Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Extended amounts of time at the computer and keyboard expected.
15.
Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
1.
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
2.
Remains current on developments in curriculum and instruction and provides leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the system’s educational program.
3.
Conducts observations of designated personnel and provides performance feedback.
4.
Evaluates principals and other administrators as assigned according to the ALSDE and/or Tuscaloosa County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
5.
Provides principals and other administrators with constructive feedback as needed.
6.
Participates in parent and/or employee conferences as needed.
7.
Collaborates with Human Resource administration and principals in determining the personnel needs of schools/worksites.
8.
Supervises and assists principals in the performance of their duties.
9.
Develops, disseminates, and oversees procedures and guidelines for athletics and extracurricular activities as assigned.
10.
Disseminates needed information to principals and assistant principals to ensure the proper management of schools and school-related events and issues.
11.
Mentors school administrators as assigned.
12.
Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of schools’ continuous improvement, professional development, and accreditation plans and reports for the area assigned.
13.
Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
14.
Exhibits professionalism in the workplace.
15.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
16.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement.
17.
Works cooperatively and productively with school system staff to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented.

Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.

Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.

Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position in accordance with the Board’s salary schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tuscaloosa County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified/administrative personnel.
