What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy Technician position at Tuscaloosa Endoscopy Center?
SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the medical and nursing staff, as well as the patients and their families concerning Endoscopic procedures. Provide therapeutic, effective patient/family centered care according to physician order, in compliance with the philosophy of the Surgery Center, standards of practice and regulations of government agencies by performing the following duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- Function to maintain optimum asepsis, and anticipate as much as possible the needs of the endoscopy physician.
- Prior to the start of the endoscopy, the endoscopy tech will:
- Prepare the endoscopy room for procedure.
- Check equipment to make sure it is in working order.
- Set up cleaning supplies/equipment.
- Assist in procedure.
Activities after completion of procedure:
- Care for the scope.
- Make sure specimens are labeled and routed appropriately.
- Discard all soiled linen and trash in the appropriate receptacle.
- Wipe down all equipment with disinfectant and clean room.
- Maintain a cleaning log for endoscopes.
- Assist in end-of-day clean up and restocking.
- Attend staff, in-service, and other meetings.
- Comply with all HIPAA regulations to maintain patient rights to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area and preserving the patients dignity at all times.
- Reports all undesirable matters, services, and facilities requiring correction to the Director of Clinical Services.
- Adhere to the Standards of Nursing Practice and AORN standards.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participates in the Disaster Recovery plan as required

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Incumbent requires high school diploma.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CPR certification.
SUPERVISOR SKILLS:
No supervisory responsibilities.
