Position Summary:
The key areas of responsibility for the position include: developing and implementing innovative outreach programs and services that extend the library's reach beyond its physical walls in collaboration with adult and youth services departments, fostering community partnerships, and promoting library resources and services to all audiences.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements are typical of an office environment and include sitting, standing, bending, walking, reaching, pushing/ pulling carts weighing over 100 lbs., lifting items weighing up to 25 lbs. and looking at a computer screen for long periods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- ALA accredited MLS/MLIS degree; or Bachelor’s degree with at least two (2) years’ relevant experience in a public library setting; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements
- A valid driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of every employee of the Tuscaloosa Public Library (TPL) to perform duties that are necessary to ensure that the Library operates in a professional, efficient, and effective manner at all times. The list below is an outline of the primary duties to be performed in this position; however, the list is not all-inclusive and should not be perceived as such. Employees are expected to perform all duties as assigned by their supervisor or chain-of-command (or his/her designee).
Primary Duties:
- Assist with designing, implementing, scheduling, promoting, and evaluating outreach programs.
- Assist in maintaining TPL promotional items (SWAG).
- Assist with recruiting and managing volunteers for outreach programs and events.
- Ensure all materials and resources are prepared and ready for outreach events.
- Create promotional materials for events and programs, including flyers and online content.
- Partner with community organizations to enhance public awareness of the library and promote its resources throughout the community.
- Collaborate with all departments to create a menu of programs for schools and organizations.
- Assess and assign requests for TPL participation in local events and school activities.
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts, track attendance, and measure the impact of programs on the community.
- Perform opening and closing procedures.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Exhibit strong customer service skills in interactions with patrons and coworkers.
- Communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively.
- Operate library equipment, such as computers, copiers, barcode scanners, book carts, postage processing equipment, vehicles, and telephones, in an appropriate, respectful, and efficient manner.
