What are the responsibilities and job description for the Back-End Engineer (Rust) position at Tuscany Strategies?
Founding Systems Engineer (Rust) – AI/ML Infrastructure | NYC (Onsite)
Location: New York City (Onsite, In-Person Role)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Are you excited about building the future of large language model (LLM) applications from the ground up? One of my clients — a fast-growing open-source platform at the forefront of AI infrastructure — is hiring a Founding Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Rust and backend systems.
About the Role:
This is not your typical engineering position — it’s a founding-level opportunity to shape the technical core of a transformative AI platform. The ideal candidate is a cross-functional builder who thrives at the intersection of systems engineering, experimentation frameworks, and production-ready infrastructure.
You’ll be part of a small, highly focused team building:
- A unified API gateway for all LLMs
- Real-time feedback collection and observability tools
- Optimization systems for prompts, inference, and model tuning
- Native experimentation and A/B testing frameworks
- Scalable systems to close the loop between inference and optimization
Ideal Candidate:
- Deep experience with Rust and strong backend systems knowledge
- A builder mindset — from prototype to production, start to finish
- Strong interest in LLMs, generative AI, or ML infrastructure
- Comfortable working across the stack, especially in performance-critical environments
- Prior experience working at early-stage startups or in high-performance systems roles
- Willing and excited to work onsite in NYC with a tight-knit team
Why This Role Stands Out:
- The chance to contribute to high-impact, open-source tools
- Work closely with top-tier engineers and researchers in AI/ML infrastructure
- Huge career growth potential in both systems and machine learning domains
- Backing from elite venture funds in AI and developer tooling
- A tight feedback loop between research, product, and production
