What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Sports Coordinator position at Tuscarawas County YMCA?
The YMCA Youth Sports Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of youth sports programs. The role focuses on promoting a fun, safe, and inclusive environment that supports youth in developing athletic skills, teamwork, and confidence. The Youth Sports Coordinator is expected to engage with the community, recruit and train coaches, organize sports leagues, and ensure the programs align with YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and coordinate a variety of youth sports programs, including leagues, clinics, and camps, for children ages 3-17.
2. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches and referees, ensuring they understand and follow YMCA’s policies and sportsmanship expectations.
3. Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and families to promote youth sports programs.
4. Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants by maintaining a safe, clean, and organized sports environment.
5. Monitor program quality and continuously seek ways to improve program offerings and participant experience.
6. Schedule games, practices, and events, ensuring appropriate use of YMCA facilities and resources.
7. Build relationships with participants, parents, and volunteers to encourage continued involvement in YMCA programs.
8. Manage program registrations, rosters, and communications with parents, participants, and coaches.
9. Maintain equipment and inventory for youth sports programs.
10. Organize and conduct parent meetings. Develop and distribute sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
11. Encourage fair and equal play for all kids. Help participants connect with one another to form friendships.
12. Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations. Prepare incident reports. Maintain certifications and other requirements. Attend all in-service training and staff meetings.
13. Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
● Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
● Experience in sports and working with children is preferred.
● Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people, and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
● Maintains consistent and reliable communication with the director, ensuring updates, challenges, and successes are shared promptly.
● Maintains a regular, visible presence at the YMCA, fostering relationships with members, staff, and the community, and supporting day-to-day operations.
● Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
● Attend New Employee Orientation within 60 days of hire.
● CPR/AED and First Aid certified within 60 days of hire.
● Other training courses included but are not limited to Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lindsay’s Law Training, and Concussion Training within 60 days of hire.
