What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician (Seasonal) position at Tuscola County?
CLASS TITLE: TECHNICIAN, (Seasonal)
PAY RATE: $14.85 per hour. 1 paid personal day, 40 hr. inclement weather pay.
Currently:
Openings are for the night shift, 5:00pm to 1:00am, May-October. However, the month of April will be spent larviciding during the day shift, 8:00am to 4:00 pm. We have several retirees, college students and high school graduates that enjoy working during the mosquito season.
HOURS: The Technician shall be available to work 23 consecutive 40 hour work weeks. However, the employer cannot guarantee the number of weeks or hours worked, as the work is severely affected by weather and other events. The Employer reserves the right to send the Technician home, call the Technician in or notify the Technician he/she will not be needed at the director’s discretion.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Performs work of routine difficulty in mosquito abatement operations involving the use of general use pesticides under the direction of a supervisor. This position requires very little immediate supervision therefore requires an individual who is responsible, conscious of their actions and follows Integrated Pest Management procedures for proper control of various mosquito life-stages of development.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
1. Checks truck and small engine for ability to perform their functions.
2. Prepares and checks larviciding and/or adulticiding equipment prior to taking said equipment into the field.
3. Drives to treatment area(s) for larviciding and/or adulticiding.
4. Communicates with the public with courtesy.
5. Participates in an Integrated Pest Management program (IPM).
6. Checks larviciding and adulticiding area(s) for need and type of treatment.
7. Larvicides and/or adulticide area(s) if necessary.
8. Prepares a report of said treatments(s).
9. Performs adulticiding duties under direction of the Foreman via radio.
10. Maintains record(s) of his/her adulticiding activity for that night.
11. Properly stores equipment and pesticides.
12. Keeps his/her vehicle clean and reports any damage or need of repairs.
13. Routine cleaning of vehicle, building and lawn maintenance.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Ability to lift 60 pounds, 100 pounds assisted.
· Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug test given by a physician selected by Tuscola County
· Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
· Must be able to properly follow a map.
· Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record and maintain such.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Individuals must be able to pass an examination to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License (7F) from the Michigan Department of Agriculture. Must be at least 18 years of age to obtain such.
