Job Summary
The Black Belt Food Corridor Coordinator is the driving force behind initiatives that advance economic opportunity for local farmers and small businesses in the Alabama Black Belt. You will spearhead efforts to promote farm-fresh ingredients, foster sustainable farming practices, as well as connect farmers with processors and consumers. Your role is instrumental in strengthening the health of rural communities through increasing access to fresh and nutritious Black Belt grown products. Essential Job Duties
- Participate in meetings and conferences at the local, state, national, and international levels as requested/approved by the Food Systems Specialist or Leadership of CISC.
- Coordinate research, education, and extension activities at the Black Belt Marketing and Innovation Center.
- Develop and coordinate a system for the maintenance of facilities and equipment .
- Develop and coordinate a system for the community use of shared equipment housed at the Black Belt Marketing and Innovation Center.
- Conduct guided tours of the Black Belt Marketing and Innovation Center for visitors, including prospective clients, partners, and industry professionals.
- Develop and implement social media strategies to promote the Black Belt Food Corridor activities across various platforms, including Linkedln, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
- Assist with organization and reporting under the CISC Sustainable Food and Environmental Systems Programs.
- Assist with supervising undergraduate students and/or interns in various community food and environmental system projects in sustainable/regenerative production systems and emerging technology.
- Assist the Food Systems Specialist in providing stakeholders, comprehensive reports on food systems in the Alabama Black Belt.
- Support the alliance of growers, industry professionals, and consumers in building an equitable Black Belt Food Corridor through in-person visits, phone calls, emails, and extension programs.
- Organize and support the deployment of TUCE demonstrations and workshops related to Sustainable Food and Environmental Systems (Sustainable/Regenerative Production Systems, and Emerging Technology).
- Provide leadership in evaluating the impact of TUCE & CISC food systems programs.
- Develop and submit grant proposals in support of the TUCE & CISC missions. Participate in all CAENS activities (CISC, Cooperative Extension, including integrated research and extension programs) and other departmental activities as requested.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Bachelor’s degree with special emphasis in Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Food Processing, and/or Economics.
- At least two (2) years of work experience in a commercial food processing environment.
