Job Summary
The Grants and Contracts Accounting Clerk position will ensure the accuracy of grants and contracts matter data files and records. This position provides support to the office staff by assisting them with compliance in all aspects of the financial research administrative requirements. This position reports to the Director of Grants and Contracts.
Essential Job Duties
- Maintain and update of the database for grants chart of accounts, expenditures documents, excel schedules, and related files
- Learn and apply emerging technologies
- Assist with posting general ledger transactions as needed
- Assists in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support the director and financial analysts
- Handle sensitive and extensive confidential information
- Demonstrate professional and courteous interactions with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Associate Degree with two years of experience: Experience in accounting, financial reporting, and invoicing. Experience with Cost Principles
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a closely related field
- College/University accounting experience
- Some knowledge of practices and procedures in grants and contracts

Knowledge of:
- Computerized office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word and ERP systems such as Ellucian Colleague
- Interpret federal and state laws, regulations and enforce grant and contracts policies and procedures of externally sponsored agencies and Tuskegee University’ policies and procedures. Experience with cost principles criteria.
Skills:
- Excellent analytical and computer skills
Ability to:
- Be a Team player
- Report to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the department
