Job Summary
Under supervision, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this position performs various routine phases of technical library work.
Essential Job Duties
- Catalog and classify new materials, update bibliographic records, and ensure the accuracy of the online catalog
- Process new books for shelf ready by printing labels
- Assist cataloger with removing old materials from the collection
- Search online databases for catalog records
- Assist with Interlibrary Loans processing
- Sort and shelve journals and magazines in the serials department
- Assist with weeding of collection
- Perform minor book repair
- Order supplies for the department
- Coordinate with other members of staff to perform periodic cataloging projects with the objective of updating outdated or incorrect information
- Train and supervise student assistants
- Work nights and weekends on a rotating basis
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
A bachelor’s degree with two years of related work experience Or
an associate’s degree with four years of related work experience
Physical Demands
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to walk short distances
- Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
- Ability to view a computer terminal; extensive reading
- Ability to lift at least 10 pounds
