The Large Animal Veterinary Technician's duties include providing support for the assigned service, covering additional service during absences, care for a variety of patient conditions including, but not limited to nursing care for emergency/lCU patients, anesthesia of geriatric and critical patients, endoscopy and special procedure assistance, maintaining surgical and medical equipment, stocking and ordering of specialty supplies, and ordering prescription and non-prescription diets.In the teaching hospital, Veterinary Technicians teach students how to place IV catheters, administer medications and fluids, anesthetize and intubate patients, monitor anesthesia and recovery, communicate patient treatment orders, assess dietary requirements, and general nursing care.
