What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at TUTTLE A Dant Clayton Division?
The Construction Estimator will conceptualize, prepare, and deliver pricing proposals to sales and/or customers as it relates to the design, engineering, manufacturing, and construction of architectural and commercial stainless steel, aluminum, and glass railings, and corresponding installation packages.
The Construction Estimator will be required to perform mathematical calculations determining railing footage and types, combined with safety factors per OSHA regulations and building codes, and mounting conditions to meet load calculations and perform cost evaluations and demonstrate how various engineering solutions impact overall cost.
The Construction Estimator will be responsible for reviewing RFI’s, drawings, specifications, and procedural information related to railing heights, materials (type, strength, weight, and finish), mounting conditions, installation parts (guard rails, top caps, shoe moldings, infills, anchors, washers, studs, reinforcements, bars, connections, beams, channels, tees, etc.), fabrication methods (grinding, buffing, galvanizing, powder coating), as well as prepare qualified scopes of work and bid proposals including accurate estimation of labor, service, and material.
The candidate must translate such project requirements into tangible figures and meet critical deadlines and work as part of a team.
Prepare detailed takeoffs from design renderings, specifications, and architectural and technical drawings corresponding to engineering, manufacturing, and construction of architectural and commercial stainless steel, aluminum, and glass railings, and corresponding installation packages.
Accurately estimate required labor, service, and materials necessary to fabricate and install railing, guardrails, top caps, shoe moldings, infills, anchors, washers, studs, reinforcements, bars, connections, beams, channels, tees, and various finishes.
Frequently communicate and collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Production and Project Management to understand scope, timelines, applicable project deadlines and any changes made to original proposal.
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
Assess cost effectiveness, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
Update and maintain directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
Create and maintain a comprehensive “submittal library” of both electronic and paper documents.
Draft RFI (Requests for Information) to contractor, owner, builder and/or architect.
Create concise proposals specifically detailing inclusions, exclusions, clarifications to bid.
Conceptualize engineering and fabrication methods for the purpose of accurate estimation of designing, manufacturing, fabricating, and installing railing and installation packages.
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
