What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Safety Engineer - Freight and Passenger Railroads position at TUV Rheinland of North America?
We are growing our rail safety consulting team in the United States and Canada. TÜV Rheinland delivers safety and security audits, independent safety assessments, and safety assurance services for rail and transit systems. Join us and contribute to high-visibility projects modernizing train control systems and building new rail infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical leadership: Lead project deliveries in accordance with industry standards and regulations. Coordinate multi-disciplinary team members distributed across North America and Europe.
- Project management: Organize the delivery of our services; track and report progress. Engage with transit agencies, construction companies, systems integrators, equipment suppliers, and subconsultants.
- Bids and proposals: Develop statements of qualification and articulate TÜV Rheinland‘s approach to the work.
- Industry leadership: Actively engage with standard-setting organizations. Liaise with regulatory authorities and accreditation bodies.
Position Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the rail industry, with at least 5 years working with safety-critical systems on railroads.
- Familiar with the FRA safety certification processes. Experience with Positive Train Control (PTC) technology.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in a US state or P.Eng. registration in a Canadian province.
- PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent project management certification/experience.
- Authorized for work in the United States or Canada. This is a remote work position with occasional travel to client offices and project sites.
