Tuxedo Park School is a co-educational, independent school. Established in 1900 and situated on a 17-acre campus, the school is located in the historic gated community of Tuxedo Park, NY. The school is one of the first schools in the country to specialize in elementary education (pre-K through ninth grade). The school serves families living in Orange and Rockland Counties, NY, and Bergen and Passaic Counties, NJ.
Band Director - Grades 4-9
The Tuxedo Park School is seeking qualified candidates that are engaging and dynamic classroom teachers with experience in developing student-centered courses. Qualified candidates will be experienced in teaching instrumental music. Candidates will oversee the 4th-6th and 7th-9th grade band ensembles. They will also teach general music theory and history once a week to 4th-6th grade students and music electives each trimester. Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or Music Performance
· Master’s Degree preferred
· At least 3 years teaching experience in the subject area of instrumental music.
· Highly self-motivated, self-disciplined strong team player with ability to work independently as a part of a larger team
· Must have proficient instrumental skill
· Must demonstrate an understanding of instrumental and ensemble pedagogy and be able to communicate those concepts in a developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate manner with students ages 9-14
· Introduce students to band instruments and guide their selection and development
· Collaborate with adjunct private lesson teachers to develop the instrumental program as a whole
· Experience teaching the jazz idiom
· Abilityto arrange/adapt age-appropriate music for eclectic music ensembles
· Must possess exceptional organizational abilities: perform multiple projects, prioritize and provide attention to detail and respect deadlines
· Must demonstrate awareness of sensitive issues and ability to exercise good judgment in relating to public, faculty and staff, boards, volunteers and donors
· Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate passionately, clearly and concisely in writing and orally
· Maintains a positive relationship with parents to create a secure environment for children
· Ability to teach private lessons preferred
· Music technology and professional audio skills preferred
· Professional experience as a performer and arranger preferred
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials using appropriate musical pedagogy and facilitate active learning of all students.
· Teach band in two sections: grades 4-6 and 7-9
· Teach general music theory to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students one day per week
· Teach two electives per trimester
· Maintain current curriculum maps on our Atlas Mapping program
· Organize time-effective rehearsals
· Prepare for annual concerts
· Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use data to adjust teaching strategies.
· Schedule and conduct conferences with students, parents, and colleagues to provide information on student progress and student needs.
· Participate actively in the work of the department and the school on curriculum development and the improvement of student achievement.
· Participate actively in the work of the grade level and across grade levels to coordinate curricular and extracurricular offerings.
· Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
· Attend school functions such as athletic events, class plays, fundraisers, awards ceremonies, commencement, and fundraisers.
· Perform additional daily duties that may or may not directly relate to the subject area or licensure field.
· Assist with audio and sound setup as needed
· Teach private lessons preferred

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
