The NewsNation Segment Producer is responsible for contributing story ideas, compiling elements, and crafting stories and segments on a variety of topics ranging from national affairs to politics to international affairs. The Segment Producer works with the Executive Producer, Senior Producer, and Line Producer to help accurately and truthfully relay stories and make them part of engaging and insightful broadcasts. This position is based in Chicago.Duties & Responsibilities : Research topics using the Internet, video archives, and other information sourcesSelect strongest possible elements to help best tell storiesWrite clear, compelling and strong editorial copyAssist in preparing and executing live, compelling television newscastsKeep Executive Producer and Senior Producer apprised of developments of storiesRequirements & Skills : 3-5 years experience in national or major-market newsBA / BS degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related fieldStrong writing skills requiredAbility to create dynamic graphic and video elementsMust be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work well with a diverse group of peopleInteract well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staffDetail-orientedExcellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skillsExhibit strong news judgmentHandle stress, including short deadlinesWork at a computer for extended periods of timeMust be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends / holidaysPerform other tasks as assigned by news managementNexstar Media Group, Inc.
