JOB SUMMARY:
The Collector II plays a key role in managing delinquent accounts and performing essential collection activities. This position primarily involves making proactive outbound calls and composing written communications to encourage payment on past-due loans. The Collector II is also responsible for managing various account activities and maintaining accurate documentation to ensure compliance with credit union policies and industry regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiate outbound phone calls to recover overdue payments and manage inbound calls related to collections. Draft and send written communication requesting payment from members.
- Execute various transactions, including payment transactions, payment reversals, and credit reporting adjustments.
- Perform accounting functions such as entries into end-of-month reports, and assist in balancing general ledger accounts for the Collections and Accounting Departments.
- Represent the Credit Union in court proceedings, articulating the Credit Union’s position professionally and confidently.
- Maintain knowledge of branch operations by completing Deposit Regulation and Product and Service Certification courses.
- Proactively demonstrate the TVFCU core values of integrity, honesty, flexibility, teamwork, leadership, accountability and strong relationships in every interaction with members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous collections experience in a credit union or financial institution is preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Bankruptcy Law.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in performing basic business math calculations and accounting functions.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions with tact and professionalism.
