Buyer
The Buyer will work closely with and report to the Director Procurement with dotted line into the Iowa City Plant Manager. The Buyer is responsible for the integrity of TVS’ purchasing and inventory systems.
The Buyer's responsibilities include keeping supplier information current, fostering strong relationships with current suppliers, and building connections with potential suppliers. The Buyer will prepare and process purchase orders and analyse data to evaluate the effectiveness of operations and projects. Additionally, the Buyer may assist in preparing RFQ’s when needed and will ensure data integrity is maintained.
Essential Functions
- Purchase goods, materials and services to ensure that the companies operational needs are met, considering price, quality and delivery to ensure continuity of supply.
- Coordinate and manage all activities during the purchasing process, which includes master item file implementation, issuing purchase orders, inventory maintenance, data integrity
- Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact the business operations
- Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities.
- Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization
- Monitor market trends and strategies
- Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous improvement
- Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
- Maintain and update vendor list
- Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships along with collaboration on best practices
- Partner with suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery and invoice issues

Work Environment
This job is performed in a warehouse environment with high forklift traffic. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required in certain warehouse areas.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time on-site position, Exempt. Schedule flexibility for extended or unplanned work hours is required.
Travel
Occasional travel between locations.
Education and Experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years’ experience in Procurement and Strategic Sourcing (ideally in manufacturing or operations)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Problem-solving and organizational skills
