Position Summary:
The Division Head - Middle School serves as the chief administrative and educational leader of the Middle School, overseeing all aspects of the division, including students, faculty, programs, and parent relations. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Division Head plays a critical role in shaping the future of the Middle School program while building on its tradition of success and excellence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate visionary leadership, collaborative management skills, and a deep commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Mission and Leadership
- Uphold and promote congruency between the school’s mission statement, values, and educational philosophy.
- Inspire and prepare faculty to foster a love of learning and knowledge in students.
- Act as the primary communicator of the Middle School’s educational programs, expectations, and behavioral guidelines to students, parents, and staff.
- Build and nurture a strong sense of community among students, parents, and staff through collaborative, inclusive, and respectful leadership.
- Serve as a key member of the Head of School’s Senior Leadership Team to establish and execute broader institutional goals.
- Be highly visible and accessible to faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and campus visitors, promoting an open-door culture.
- Develop trusting relationships with families, addressing and resolving routine and unique issues in a timely and empathetic manner.
- Build meaningful relationships with faculty and staff, identifying and leveraging their strengths while supporting their professional and personal growth.
Operational Leadership
- Oversee and manage the division’s day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless coordination across all aspects of the Middle School.
- Develop and manage the divisional budget, working closely with the business office to approve purchases and allocate resources effectively.
- Supervise and guide lead teachers, student organization sponsors, and faculty committees to ensure alignment with divisional goals.
- Act as the key decision-maker and problem-solver for operational matters within the division.
Curriculum and Pedagogy
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body regulations and maintain the highest educational standards.
- Design and implement instructional and co-curricular schedules that maximize learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and review annual objectives for instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs.
- Observe, evaluate, and support faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum, teaching strategies, and innovative practices.
- Regularly review and assess academic programs to ensure they meet the needs of all learners.
Faculty Leadership
- Provide mentorship and support to faculty on classroom management, teaching methods, and school procedures.
- Guide faculty through meaningful observation, evaluation, goal-setting, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of unity, collaboration, and mutual respect by recognizing and celebrating individual and team strengths.
- Facilitate regular faculty meetings to address routine matters and engage in discussions about educational trends, challenges, and opportunities.
Student Support
- Create an innovative, positive, and dynamic learning environment that empowers students to thrive academically and personally.
- Address the diverse educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of students by implementing plans that support their well-being.
- Advocate for diverse learning styles and modalities to promote and enhance each student’s unique strengths and abilities.
Admissions and Retention
- Collaborate with the Enrollment Management team on the recruitment and retention of mission-appropriate students.
- Articulate the school’s philosophy, values, and practices to prospective families, fostering engagement and enthusiasm for the Middle School program.
Professional Development and Growth
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices through regular attendance at conferences and professional development events.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging professional learning among faculty and staff.
Advancement and Community Engagement
- Partner with the Advancement team on fundraising initiatives that directly impact the Middle School.
- Actively participate in school functions, including evening and weekend events, to build strong connections with the school community.
Qualifications

A master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field (doctorate preferred). - Demonstrated experience in middle school leadership, curriculum development, and faculty supervision.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and decision-making abilities, with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Passion for fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that prioritizes the needs of students and families.
