Position Summary:
Client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of the company and its affiliated real estate entities. The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with corporate executives. This key leadership position will be responsible for managing aspects of accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and financial strategy across multiple business units. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction and real estate accounting, with a proactive approach to financial management, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
Role Description
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Houston, TX. The Financial Controller will oversee all financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and financial strategy execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and financial operations, transitioning from external to in-house processes
- Prepare and maintain financial statements and journal entries
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor payments (100 vendors)
- Establish internal financial controls to support scalability
- Handle tax compliance, audits, and regulatory reporting
- Manage fixed assets, depreciation, and general ledger accounting
- Partner with leadership on financial strategy and business growth
- Recruit and build a finance team as the company continues to grow
Qualifications
✅ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
✅ 5 years of experience in accounting & financial management
✅ Strong expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance
✅ Experience in SaaS or technology companies (preferred)
✅ Experience leading finance functions or transitioning from outsourced to in-house
✅ Strong knowledge of financial systems, accounting software, and automation tools
✅ Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
✅ Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent (preferred)
✅ Prior experience building and leading a finance team (preferred)
