About the Role
This position will work closely with the winemaking, viticulture, sensory, and research teams across multiple brands to coordinate and perform all daily analytical analysis required for production needs; including, but not limited to, grape, must, finished wine, and bottled wine analysis, monitoring, and tracking fermentations, monitoring and tracking bottling operations, bench-top analysis, data collection, and recording.
The successful candidate will have laboratory experience, strong organizational skills and time management, computer proficiency, have a quest for quality results and work well individually as well as in a team atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Wine Chemist must have the ability to work efficiently and accurately in a high throughput advanced analytical laboratory.
- Perform routine juice, must, and wine analysis using automated equipment such as FTIR, UV-Vis, NIR, GCTQ, auto-titration, and discrete analyzer. This includes pH, titratable acidity, brix, alcohol, ammonia, free-amino nitrogen, free and total sulfur, volatile acidity, residual sugar, anthocyanin, tannins, brettanomyces, haloanisoles, and various other analyses.
- Perform all quality assurance functions during bottling operations.
- Record and enter data in Excel, JDE, VinoEZ, and AgCode.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order.
- Perform quality control measures and instrument calibrations as needed.
- Work with other laboratory staff including other wine chemists and harvest interns.
- Support the Laboratory Supervisor in other responsibilities such as training and maintaining SOPs, SDSs, GMPs, GDPs, and GLPs.
- Participate in HACCP related activities.
- Clean glassware, countertops, lab equipment and instrumentation regularly, maintaining good general housekeeping of the lab.
- Understand and abide by safety guidelines and laboratory procedures.
- Collect wine samples from tanks.
- Flexibility regarding work hours and shift assignment a must.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency Disclosure : The base pay range offered for this position is $24.04 to $26.44 per hour. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of St. Helena, CA. If the incumbent works out of another location, the wage rate may fall above or below this range. Treasury reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
