Scope of Work:
The Distribution Designer will collaborate with project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various overhead and underground utility distribution projects that focus on circuits up to 34kV. The designer will work within a small team and report their progress regularly to the director of engineering. This position requires constant communication between designers and engineers on the team in addition to our field data collection team. The Distribution Designer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and draft distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, encompassing installation of distribution equipment, feeder replacements, cable upgrades, and new feeder designs.
- Create design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other essential deliverables.
- Conduct various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop assessment, and pole loading evaluations.
- Apply extensive knowledge of NESC standards and utility regulations, guidelines, specifications, and protocols.
- Gather and organize project-related data as requested by project managers.
- Conduct on-site inspections of overhead and underground electric facilities within public and private utility systems when necessary.
- Coordinate project communications concerning vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way issues, and outage planning.
- Develop client presentations, reports, and visual aids to illustrate technical findings and project progress.
- Conduct pole loading analysis using software such as Poleforeman, SPIDAcalc, O-Calc, PLS-CADD
- Provide training and guidance to the project team members.
- Ensure quality assurance and maintain technical coherence throughout the project lifecycle.
- Complies with established company work rules, policies, and procedures.
- Actively engages with other members of the company to continuously strive to improve processes, create efficiencies, reduce costs, and increase profitability.

Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related degree required.
- Three years of relevant experience designing Electrical Distribution preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
- Strong computer skills with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
- Experience and proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or at least one utility GIS
- Strong knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
- Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to occasionally travel to job sites.
Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually commensurate with experience.
