What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meat Cutter position at Twin Cities Co-op Partners?
Reports to : Linden Hills Meat & Seafood Manager This role will cut and display fresh meat and seafood so as to assure strong customer appeal, minimize waste, and maintain the highest standard of integrity in the product.
RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare cuts of seafood and meat (including whole animal butchery) for best yield and margin results while maintaining good customer appeal.
This would include cutting, deboning, trimming, grinding, weighing, and packaging meat and seafood products to specification or customers' requirements.
Make sausages and other value-added products.
Follow department procedures and meet department standards of cleanliness, product handling, and personal safety at all times.
Convey approachable presence on the sales floor.
Assist customers with questions and offer suggestions for purchase.
Provide prompt, friendly, courteous responses with accurate information on product availability, source, nutrition, and preparation.
Assist customers with special orders.
Stock displays according to the procedures outlined in department training : ensure an appearance of abundance and quality and use safe handling practices.
Assist with product purchasing in managers absence Check incoming product for quality, verify piece count, and notify managers of discrepancies, quality problems, and over-shorts.
Maintain Meat & Seafood sales, prep, and storage areas in clean, orderly condition to meet or exceed health department standards.
Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures.
Participate in inventory counts.
Carry out established opening and closing procedures.
Attend department and storewide meetings.
Perform other tasks assigned by Meat & Seafood Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS At least 1 year's hands-on professional experience cutting meat and seafood, whether in a retail, wholesale, or restaurant / deli environment At least 6 months' face-to-face customer service experience Some experience in a busy retail environment Ability to problem solve in moment's notice.
Not every cut of meat is the same and it takes skill to make it all look uniform and presentable.
Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team; ability to communicate effectively with customers.
Must be self-motivated and solution oriented.
Can train and inspire a diverse group of Team Members to excellence in all aspects of the department Ability to follow through on instructions and procedures.
Ability to sell proactively and know basic knowledge of all products carried in the department.
Demonstrated ability to sustain a strong focus on detail and maintain a prolonged commitment to tasks Understand and communicate quality goals and ingredient information to customers.
Effective time management skills.
Strong work ethic and integrity.
Ability to use knives and equipment (band saw, grinder) safely and with precision.
Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
Evening and weekend schedule required.
Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed.
