Job Title: Behavior Support Specialist
Job Overview:
The Behavior Support Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents receiving services under our 245D program. This position requires immediate response to crisis situations, supporting both residents and staff in de-escalating behaviors, and providing post-crisis debriefings. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in crisis intervention, positive support strategies, and behavioral management techniques. This role is on-call and requires the specialist to be present for every crisis moment to provide hands-on support, guidance, and coaching to staff and residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate, on-site response to crisis situations involving residents.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to ensure safety and emotional regulation for residents and staff.
- Conduct post-crisis debriefings with residents and staff to analyze the situation and prevent recurrence.
- Implement and reinforce positive support strategies to promote resident well-being.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update behavior support plans as needed.
- Train and coach direct support staff on crisis intervention techniques and behavioral strategies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all crisis incidents, interventions, and follow-ups.
- Communicate effectively with management, guardians, case managers, and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Support staff in recognizing triggers and implementing proactive behavioral interventions.
- Ensure compliance with 245D regulations and company policies regarding behavioral supports.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in crisis intervention, positive support strategies, and behavioral management.
- Strong ability to remain calm and composed under high-stress situations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and adaptable approach.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with residents, staff, and external partners.
- Knowledge of 245D licensing requirements and best practices for behavioral support.
- Ability to train and coach staff on de-escalation techniques and behavior intervention plans.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Must be available on-call and able to respond to crisis situations at any time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral support, crisis intervention, or a related field.
- Prompt response time and reliable communication in Crisis Situations.
