Job Summary :

The Medical Scribe is primarily responsible for the operation of electronic health records and electronic dictation systems and performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of medical providers running efficiently. Primary goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the provider. The Medical Scribe's task list includes, but is not limited to :

• Accompanies provider into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and documents accurately the provider's encounter with the patient and others present.
• Accurately and thoroughly documents medical visits and procedures as they are being performed at the direction of the provider.
• Ensures that all clinical data, lab or other test results and the interpretation of the results by the provider are recorded accurately in the medical record.
• Generates and submits orders as directed by the provider.
• Completes records by entering and reviewing patient information in the electronic medical record (NextGen).
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and / or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
• Monitors, maintains, and stocks exam rooms.
• Answers and returns telephone calls in a timely manner.
• Cross trains and work other areas of the clinic to support departments and staff as needed.
• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and / or accompanying them to the examining room.
• Travels to alternate satellite clinics as required.
