Job Description:
The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for managing the biweekly payroll process for Twin Lakes School Corporation in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for processing payroll and all payroll-related functions such as timekeeping, auditing, ACHs, and tax payments. The Payroll Coordinator ensures that the Corporation complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required. Post-secondary training in accounting or equivalent work experience is desired.
- Minimum of three to five years of payroll experience preferred with self-directed responsibilities in payroll, accounting, data processing, or equivalent in specialized or technical work, preferably in an education or other public sector setting.
- Experience with payroll and accounting software, preferably Boyce/Komputrol.
- Strong math aptitude and detail oriented. Highly skilled and accurate in calculations involved in payroll preparation.
- Ability to prepare correspondence and other written materials in a neat and professional manner.
- Ability to prepare accurate and presentable schedules utilizing Excel.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local tax regulations and reporting, social security, NPRS, Workers Compensation, unemployment, and other applicable rules and regulations.
- Ability to interpret IRS requirements.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision on complex assignments.
- Ability to handle payroll and other information in a confidential manner.
- Willingness to learn and implement new technologies, procedures and processes.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Processes payroll accurately and timely using K-Time time tracking, AESOP absence management, and the Boyce/Komputrol payroll system.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Ensures all employee hours, salaries, deductions, garnishments, benefits, and leaves are accurately calculated and entered into the payroll system.
- Prepares and issues, or coordinates preparation of, all certified and ECA contracts for employees.
- Maintains payroll system tax tables and rate changes for Social Security, Medicare, TRF, PERF, and other applicable rates.
- Maintains sick/personal/vacation time for employee groups who receive these benefits.
- Maintains employee records, including data such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, employment anniversary, years of service, deduction information, direct deposit requests, and tax forms, entering data into Komputrol and other systems.
- Prepares all required files and transmit them to the bank for direct deposit of employees’ pay.
- Prepares and issues all W-2s and related tax forms to employees, state, and federal agencies.
- Prepares, balances, and transmits payments of tax withholdings and deductions to federal and state agencies and annuity carriers.
- Prepares all employment-related tax returns and reports for state and federal agencies.
- Processes Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement/Public Employee Retirement Fund payments and required reports for the Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement Fund (INPRS).
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Business Manager.
