The Assistant Director of Nursing / Staff Development Nurse RN will play a vital role in overseeing and supporting the nursing team at Twin Oaks Center, assisting with the day-to-day operations of the nursing department. This role combines leadership, clinical expertise, and training responsibilities to ensure that all nursing staff have the knowledge and skills to provide our residents with the highest standard of care. The position will work closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the nursing team.


Qualifications

  • Education:

o Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in MA.

o Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Experience:

o Minimum of 3 years of experience in a long-term care setting, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.

o Experience in staff development, training, and Education in a nursing capacity.

o Strong knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and quality improvement methodologies.

  • Skills & Abilities:

o Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

o Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate training programs.

o Strong organizational and time-management skills.

o Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

o Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare-related software.

o Commitment to patient care excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Clinical Oversight

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department, including patient care, staffing, and administrative duties.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor patient care and provide clinical support where necessary.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for residents.
  • Ensure all nursing activities are in compliance with facility policies, industry standards, and state and federal regulations.

2. Staff Development & Training

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate ongoing training and development programs for all nursing staff to improve clinical skills, patient care, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and lead orientation programs for new nursing hires, ensuring they receive comprehensive onboarding and ongoing support.
  • Conduct periodic in-service training and workshops to promote best practices in nursing care, including infection control, patient safety, emergency protocols, and care plan development.
  • Ensure that nursing staff are up-to-date on certifications, licensure renewals, and mandatory training requirements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous professional development, encouraging staff to pursue advanced certifications and clinical education.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Assist in ensuring that nursing services comply with regulatory and accreditation standards, including state health codes, Joint Commission, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct audits of nursing documentation, resident care plans, and patient records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Report and investigate incidents, accidents, and adverse events, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and practices in nursing care and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance and improve service delivery.

4. Staffing & Resource Management

  • Assist in the scheduling and staffing of the nursing department to ensure adequate coverage and avoid staffing shortages.
  • Support the Director of Nursing in evaluating and recommending staffing adjustments based on census and resident needs.
  • Monitor and manage the use of nursing supplies and equipment to ensure proper utilization and prevent shortages.
  • Participate in budget planning and cost management related to nursing services.

5. Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams regarding nursing care plans, changes in condition, and progress.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff, addressing clinical concerns and providing guidance on complex patient care situations.
  • Foster positive relationships between nursing staff and other departments to support collaborative care and a harmonious work environment.
  • Participate in care conferences, team meetings, and committee meetings as required by the Director of Nursing.

6. Resident Care & Advocacy

  • Ensure that resident care is compassionate, individualized, and focused on maintaining dignity and quality of life.
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of residents, ensuring that they receive high-quality care in accordance with their care plan.
