Requirements
Meet with business and understand / document business requirements
Build and designing business process flows
Building mockups and wireframes for the application, go through iterations to get business agreement on what works the best for their work.
Defining the information architecture (basically what data goes on which screen) to make the job of the business user easier and simpler.
Working with technical architects to figure out which technology platform is good for the need of the business ( java, .net etc)
