The Design Engineer is responsible performing engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives including timely development of drawings, bill of materials, instructions, etc. meeting the company design standards.
Specific Job Duties:- Create 2D, 3D models of assemblies, BOM’s, and shop drawings using Solid Works and other CAD software
- Working with contractors or vendors as needed
- Assisting with project estimating
- Evaluating current designs for cost-cutting and implementing easier or more efficient manufacturing methods
- Performing calculations to support proper material sizing and selection
- Performs analysis of designs to ensure that all internal and external standards are met including calculations, forces, and loads
- Assisting in developing and maintaining company design standards to streamline the engineering process for each project
- Plays a major role in the development, qualifications, and timely execution of all plant capital spending projects including project management
- Champion the optimization of all plant & workstation layouts using LEAN concepts including value stream mapping and 5S
- Perform other duties as directed
- Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, facilitate change, initiate action, and effective communication is required for this position
- Knowledge of automation systems
- Proficient in computer software for design work and layouts including Solid Works and other CAD software
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Education:
- Engineering degree with a Mechanical or Mechanical Engineering Technology focus preferred) OR
- Two years minimum design engineering experience with a plastics or injection molding background
