Assistant Golf Course Superintendent In-Training
Castle Pines Golf Club, located in Castle Rock, Colorado is seeking an Assistant Superintendent In-Training to join their golf course maintenance team.
The Assistant Superintendent In-Training is a position for candidates with golf course maintenance experience seeking management careers in the golf course maintenance industry. The position is designed to provide the individual with experience and training directed specifically towards preparing for advancement to an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position. The AIT performs a broad range of maintenance activities including, but not limited to, equipment operation, agronomic product applications, special projects, limited supervision, and administrative and record keeping duties.

Castle Pines Golf Club, what to expect:
- Annual rounds: Approximately 15,000
- Equipment: Primarily Toro with other assorted brands
- Irrigation System: Toro Lynx with smart satellites
- Grass types: Creeping bentgrass (T1)/Poa annua greens, bent/poa/rye fairways, Kentucky bluegrass/tall fescue rough and creeping bentgrass tees
- Typical Schedule:
- During the off-season, we maintain a standard 40-hour workweek. However, our team is responsible for snow removal on the property, which may require occasional weekend shifts.
- In-season, our team follows a structured rotation system where AIT's will gain hands-on experience in different areas from week to week.
- Week 1: Water Management
AIT's will manage water usage on the golf course, including hand watering greens and supplementing tees, fairways, and rough areas as needed. This is typically the most demanding week. - Week 2: Crew Management
During this week, AIT's will assist with scheduling responsibilities for the entire golf course maintenance crew, which includes organizing morning tasks, second assignments, and overseeing projects. AIT's will also have the opportunity to help manage daily schedules and may run morning meetings. - Week 3: Agronomy
AIT's will participate in the spray operation, learning to use GPS-guided ride-on sprayers, spraying greens, and assisting in other agronomic activities.
- Week 1: Water Management
- AIT's are expected to work every third weekend. Typical annual overtime hours are around 400.

Position Responsibilities:
- Assists with all aspects of daily course maintenance including mowing of all playing surfaces using both walk-behind and riding mowers.
- Utilize effective water management techniques, including hand watering and other methods.
- Perform accurate application of fertilizers and chemicals, ensuring proper calibration and safe application techniques.
- Participates in daily course setup, including adjusting hole and tee placements and performing detailed maintenance tasks.
- Helps implement cultural practices such as topdressing and aerification.
- Assists with maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, including repairs to irrigation heads, pipe issues, and troubleshooting.
- Operates and trains staff in the proper usage and maintenance of all golf course equipment.
- Promotes a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
Requirements:
- Previous golf course maintenance experience required.
- A degree or certificate in turfgrass science or related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., work outdoors in various conditions, and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary - $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
