DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Instructor, Summer Camps is a part-time temporary staff position that reports to the Director, Apache Recreation Center. This position will perform a variety of tasks in a summer camp setting including but not limited to athletic, art, cooking, dance, maker and stem camps.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Help facilitate sections of daily summer camps.
- Monitors and supervises camps and assists the instructor as need be.
- Leads small groups of campers during break out sessions.
- Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
- Assist in the reinforcement of established rules to ensure safety of campers.
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior management.
- Responsible for reporting and documenting any and all injuries.
- Maintains a positive, professional and supportive relationship with camp director, management team, fellow staff, campers and camper’s guardians.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, campers and other camp counselors.
- Evaluates camps and suggest improvements, needs, hazards and trends to camp director.
- Demonstrates use of camp equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with minors preferred ages 4-17.
- Must pass reference checks and background screenings, which include fingerprint check and sex offender registry check.
- Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
- Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to spend time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull or otherwise move objects up to 30lbs.
