Description
The Manager, Tutoring Services and Writing Support is a full-time 12 month position that reports to the Director, Academic Support Services.
Essential Functions and Duties
Primary Responsibilities
Supervisory Duties
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and be primary supervisor for Tutoring Services student assistants
- Manage and supervise Tutoring Services part time tutors and peer content and writing tutors.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and mentor Tutoring Services part time tutors and peer content and writing tutors
- Develop work schedules for Tutoring Services student assistants, part time tutors, and peer content and writing tutors
- Evaluate and provide feedback to part time tutors and content and writing tutors during tutoring sessions as well as student assistants
- Assist student assistants, part time tutors, and peer tutors with problem solving when problematic situations arise
- Report problems that are experienced by student assistants, part time tutors, peer tutors, and students to Director
- Update student assistant and tutor manuals and training documents as needed
- Assist with data collecting and reporting for Tutoring Services
- Assist the Director of Academic Support Services in establishing program assessment goals, developing tools and methods for assessment and data collection, and reporting
- Work with professors to recruit potential content and writing tutors for Tutoring Services
- Help develop and lead new student assistant and new tutor trainings as well as monthly employee meetings for student assistants and tutors
- Give brief in-class presentations regarding all tutoring services
- Help facilitate CRLA certification tutor trainings for Tutoring Services
- Help work on CRLA re-certification application process for Tutoring Services
- Participate in special events such as but not limited to Weeks of Welcome and Preview Day to promote all services of the Learning Commons
- Promote and maintain good public relations with professors, staff, students, and administration
- Participate in professional development activities
- Provide feedback, as appropriate, to staff and professors regarding tutee performance, progress, and attendance to Tutoring Services
Writing Duties
- Provide direct tutoring support to tutees regarding writing assistance
- Develop, schedule, advertise, and present open attendance writing workshops on campus and online
- Develop, schedule, and present in-class writing workshops when requested by professors
- Research and create writing handouts to enhance tutoring and workshop sessions
- Create online writing tutorial videos
- Develop collaborative relationships with English faculty to ensure alignment between curriculum and writing support

If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Required Experience
One year of writing tutoring experience
Preferred Education
Master’s Degree in a related field
