Description
The Part-Time Interpreter / Captionist is a part-time position responsible to the Coordinator, Hearing Loss Services and Director, Disability Services.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Providing sign language interpreting / transliterating services for classroom, laboratory and other Tyler Junior College activities as assigned
Supporting Captioning Work as needed
Accepting regular and / or substitute disability accommodations assignments as necessary
Providing office support including but not limited to : record keeping, filing, copying, faxing, Access data base management, Excel reporting and other computer based activities
Assisting with scheduling and dispatching interpreter assignments
Communicating effectively with Deaf / HoH publics of the College
Assisting Interpreter / Coordinator in creating an atmosphere of cordiality and service for staff, program participants and other publics of the College
Performing other duties as assigned by the Interpreter / Coordinator and Director of Disabilities
Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to communicate effectively in person, and by email, in addition to engaging in general telephone / Videophone (VRS). assistance
Excellent human relations skills required
Must be able to be an independent problem solver, respect confidentiality and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff and visitors
Must be available for morning / afternoon / night / weekend flexible scheduling
Detail-oriented work habits and ability to meet required deadlines
Qualifications
Preferred Education / Experience
Captioning experience
Post-secondary interpreting experience

Part-Time Retirement
Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company.
