Description

The Part-Time Public Safety Officer is a part-time position responsible to the Campus Police Lieutenant. This position provides service and information to students, employees and visitors; responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the parking of vehicles on College property; directing traffic; patrolling College property to safeguard buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of Tyler Junior College.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Provide service to students, employees and visitors
  • Write reports
  • Check permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus, direct flow of traffic, and parking of cars when needed
  • Issue parking permits and parking violation citations when needed
  • Patrol buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies or suspicious activity
  • Ensure all personnel entering campus are properly identified; issue visitor badges and maintain a log of all issued badges
  • Provide directions to buildings and offices, and answer other general information questions for visitors
  • Patrol buildings and grounds on foot or in a vehicle to provide security and prevent crime; write reports on incidents occurring on campus
  • Perform other related duties as required

  • Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Public Safety Officer
  • Work requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions and occasional decisions of some significance
  • Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policy and procedure
  • Qualifications

    Required Education / Experience

  • Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent
  • Required Certifications / Licensures

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a College-owned and / or leased motor vehicle

    Physical Requirements

  • Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding
  • Working Conditions

  • Exposure to variable weather conditions
  • Working on any one of three shifts with varying days off and holidays
  • Work involves a degree of hazard

    RETIREMENT

    Part-Time Retirement

    Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.

    Library Use

    Employees may utilize the Vaughn Library and Learning Resource Center.

    Fitness Facility Use

    Employee and immediate family use of the Apache Recreation Center - an indoor weight and exercise center, 18-hole disc golf course, covered basketball course, and outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole. The cost is $5 per ID.
