Description
A Student Assistant (SA) at TJC plays an important role in promoting the mission of the department/office and college. The SA is required to perform various clerical tasks that aide in maintaining an organized workflow of the department/office.
The TJC Promise increases access to higher education in East Texas by providing approximately 8,000 high school students with the assurance that their tuition and fees will be underwritten for two years at TJC.
Essential Functions and Duties
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides minimal coverage of the front desk and phones and greets all callers and visitors in a courteous, polite and professional manner
- Refers callers or visitors to the appropriate point of contact or resource
- Takes accurate messages as needed
- Responds to work related emails and may assist with replying to department email accounts, if assigned by the supervisor
- Assists with outgoing mail (folds letters and envelopes, prepares labels, etc.)
- Assists with basic office administration and other work as needed: this may include maintaining spreadsheets; preparing reports; coordinating/gathering data; filing, copying or scanning documents, etc.
- Utilize multiple software programs (e.g. Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.) to track progress and generate reports
- Helps keep file rooms and supply rooms organized

Qualifications
Students must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain enrollment status to work in these positions. Students must qualify for Federal Work Study, which will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Additional Job Specific Requirements
Students are allowed to work a maximum of eighteen (18) hours per week and cannot work in multiple hourly positions. A work week is Sunday-Saturday.
