JOB SUMMARY
Helps all Tylock-George Eye Care patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
2. Checks condition of patient’s eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, extraocular motility, and blood pressure.
3. Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by manifesting refraction, dilating their pupils, reporting patient’s history summary, changes in visual acuity, elevated intraocular pressure, or blood pressure to the doctor.
4. Anticipates the doctors needs and prepares/performs diagnostic testing provide helpful information.
5. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; and keeping all patient information confidential.
6. Counsels patients by transmitting physician’s orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and questions about surgery.
7. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy working environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with all legal regulations.
8. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
9. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
10. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
11. Serves and protects the ophthalmology practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
12. Enhances ophthalmology practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment.
13. Actively promote and solicit reviews/referrals from patients to further enhance our reputation.
14. Complete other tasks and assignments as deemed appropriate by your supervisor.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
1. High School diploma or Graduation Equivalency Degree (GED) required
2. At least one year ophthalmology assistant experience
3. Demonstrable skills associated with at least 1 year of experience working as an ophthalmic technician.
Preferred Skills
1. Telephone Etiquette: When a patient calls in, the way in which the front desk personnel handle the telephone call determines how the facility is perceived.
2. Customer Service: Giving patients personal attention can go a long way in establishing their positive experience with the facility. The ophthalmic assistant should give the patients a warm welcome when they are called back.
3. Outstanding communication and patient relations skills.
