What are the responsibilities and job description for the Internal Auditor position at Tyme Maidu Tribe?
SUMMARY: This position includes, but is not limited to, working under the direction of the Internal Audit Manager and the Audit Committee. Internal Auditors perform audit fieldwork, while following Department standards and principles. The primary responsibility of the Internal Audit Department is to observe and review the operations of specified departments within the casino, in order to ensure compliance with Tribal MICS (Minimum Internal Control Standards), as well as with Gold Country Casino policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned by the Internal Audit Manager, or the Audit Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Includes, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct detailed tests of gaming and non-gaming transactions.
- Review operational compliance with Tribal MICS (Minimum Internal Control Standards). Observe, review, and investigate the procedures and documents of specified departments within the casino.
- Prepare detailed audit work papers which support audit findings.
- Prepare detailed, accurate and clear audit reports.
- Present findings to Casino Management and the Audit Committee.
- Perform follow-up reviews to determine if recommended corrective actions have been implemented.
- Review Gold Country Casino policy & procedure manuals (including proposed changes to such policy & procedure manuals), to ensure compliance with Tribal MICS (Minimum Internal Control Standards).
- Provide guidance to management (and other casino employees), in order to assist them with their efforts to comply with Tribal MICS (Minimum Internal Control Standards), as well as with Gold Country Casino policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with external auditors.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Audit Committee or the Internal Audit Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must present a positive attitude, and maintain cooperative working relationships, while working at the Casino.
- Should posses a combination of education and experience which meets professional standards.
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience with a background in accounting and auditing is preferred. Professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Gaming or auditing (internal or external) related experience is preferred.
- Possess an understanding of the gaming industry, internal controls and auditing procedures.
- Must be computer literate, preferably with data mining skills and experience with electronic spreadsheets and word processing.
- Preferably able to write at a professional level, as well as read and explain applicable law, and other technical writing.
- Must be able to pass an extensive criminal and financial background check and pass a drug screen.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, such as Tribal MICS (Minimum Internal Control Standards), and casino policy & procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Audit Committee Members, external auditors, casino management, and other casino employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must have the ability to deal with problems, which may involve several concrete variables. Must possess strong analytical and reasoning skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The internal auditor is regularly required to bend, stand, walk, sit, and use hand/eye coordination. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the internal audit position. When on the Casino and Hotel floor, the noise level may sometimes be loud. The Casino is a smoking environment, and the internal auditor must be able to work in a smoke-filled atmosphere.
