Job Description:
This position is assigned to a unit within the Economic Services Section. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise a small staff of Income Maintenance Caseworkers. The Income Maintenance Programs involved include, but are not limited to, the following: Medicaid (all programs, including Medicaid Transportation), Child Care, FNS, WFFA and Energy Programs. This position is responsible for completing all investigations for FNS, Medicaid, Child Care, LIEAP, CIP, and WFFA. This supervisor is responsible for the oversight of all eligibility functions (ie. intake, processing, and review). This position reports directly to the Income Maintenance Supervisor III.
This employee must possess the ability to interact well with the public and must be able to work in a team environment. This employee must possess excellent computer skills sufficient to use NC FAST, research and understand online program manuals, and use other search engines and software programs. This employee must work with the local judicial system in evaluating and resolving suspected fraud cases.
This employee must coordinate workflow for a team of Caseworkers. This employee is responsible for providing on-the-job training for staff. This employee will ensure that staff members adhere to Federal and State standards with regard to the quality of work required in processing Income Maintenance cases. This employee may be responsible for conducting second party reviews. This employee may counsel staff regarding performance and grievance policies and will evaluate staff performance.
Other duties may be assigned to the employee when deemed necessary by the Supervisor and/or the Director. This employee must respond to disasters as needed in accordance with Tyrrell County DSS policy. This employee must have a valid NC Driver’s License and a working phone in case of emergencies.
Education and Experience:
Knowledge of Income Maintenance programs, forms, and documents used in determining eligibility. Considerable knowledge of the use of income maintenance manuals. General knowledge of all programs and services. Ability to instruct, organize, direct, and supervise employees. Ability to communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, and applicants and to interpret rules and regulations. Good mathematical, reasoning, and computational skills.
Three years of experience as a Caseworker or Investigator in an Income Maintenance program, preferably with one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Hours of Work:
Normal hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. 37.5 hours per week.
