Role Description
The Director of Construction at Tyson & Associates Construction Company, Inc. will be responsible for overseeing the daily management, coordination, and oversight of all commercial construction projects within the company. This individual will provide departmental oversight for all phases of construction projects from beginning to end, providing guidance, leadership, and oversight of the day-to-day operations of multiple projects simultaneously.
Must Demonstrate Proficiency in these High Payoff Activities:
- Work closely and supervise multiple Project Managers, Project Superintendents, and Project Engineers to oversee ongoing commercial construction projects.
- Ensure that cost control is set up and maintained in accordance with company standards. Monitor and manage bottom line profit accountability for the company.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits and perform regular job audits to check and monitor progress and quality standards.
- Review contract terms and conditions and assist the leadership team in contract negotiations.
- Ensure that scheduling procedures are followed - baseline critical path schedule, monthly updates, two-week lookahead schedules, etc…
- Provide oversight of the project closeout process for the division ensuring that deliverables and deadlines are met.
- Recruit, train, mentor and oversee the supervision of qualified construction personnel.
- Establish and promote the safety culture on all job sites and be proactive in the prevention of injuries to employees and the public, environmental hazards and property losses through professional planning and management of assigned projects.
- Assure jobsite compliance to TACC’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program, policies, and regulatory requirements including any client or facility specific requirements.
- Ensure that all work is performed safely and in compliance with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Enforce project quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards and ensure that onsite QA/QC meetings and inspections are being conducted and documented.
- Follow, promote, and enforce all company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Create and provide timely and accurate reporting to the leadership team, including weekly Work in Progress, Manpower Needs, and monthly financial projections.
- Ensure each project team member's compliance with their job descriptions and responsibilities and conduct formal employee performance evaluations for assigned staff.
- Work with the Business Development team to develop new or renewed client relationships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Ten or more years of experience in management-level positions in Commercial Construction will be expected of top candidates.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related degree is preferred, but equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Proven experience of successfully managing and completing ground-up commercial construction projects ranging from $5-15 Million.
- In-depth understanding of construction procedures and project management principles.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, with a heavy emphasis in Excel, etc...
- Intermediate skill level with technology and computer systems.
- Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
- Experience with Viewpoint accounting software is a plus.
- Experience with Bluebeam is a plus.
- Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management ability.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.
- This is a corporate office position based out of Ringgold, GA office which may require travel up to 2-3 hour radius by car.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
