Job Details:
Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or upon completion of assigned work
Pay: $16.70 per Hour
SUMMARY: Responsible for taking daily samples on production floor and performing general microbiological duties within the lab.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect micro samples throughout various stages of the process
- Monitor lab inventory and order lab supplies
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of lab and equipment; autoclaving lab equipment and making media
- Test samples for Salmonella, Campylobacter, APC
- Perform antibiotic tests on feed samples
- Other duties as assigned
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
- In the absence of a Lab Technician I, a trained Lab technician, Lab Supervisor, or Sr. Manager of FSQA will take on all quality and food safety related duties conducted by the Lab Technician I.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to operate equipment and handle lab materials safely and effectively, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices and laboratory practices
- Ability to work efficiently at a fast pace; meeting speed requirements
- Able to discern and pay attention to quality of product and work output
- Must be able to work independently and make decisions
- Willingness to function as part of a team and work toward team goals
- Eagerness to learn new ideas
- Preparedness to assist in other areas of production and work overtime as required
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma preferred or equivalent acceptable
- Basic knowledge of aseptic technique and microbiology
- Basic computer knowledge required
- Must be able to perform basic arithmetic and calculations
Physical Requirements / Environment:
- Rarely (0-1 hrs.): climb or work at unprotected heights (step up onto production stand), kneel, crouch or crawl
- Occasionally (1-3 hrs.): lift/carry, push/pull (up to 45 lbs.), sit, squat, balance
- Frequently (3-6 hrs.): lift/carry (up to 10 lbs.), simple/firm grasping, reach above shoulder, fine manipulation/keyboarding, bend/stoop, twist/turn Continuously (6-8 hrs.): stand/walk, work around moving machinery, exposed to marked changes in temperature, around and amongst poultry dust and odor as well as chemical fumes, work in wet/humid environment or cold environment less than 40
- F, talk and hear, use 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses and distinguish colors
Rehire Consideration:
- Max of two (2) previous Tyson Employments to be considered for hire.
- 90 days (3 months) waiting period.
