Gynecologic / Oncology Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides assessment,
management, and outcome evaluation for patients for both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The APRN / PA serves as a resource to educate patients, families, professional nurses, and staff; functions
as a liaison between patient, family and UofL Physicians staff; and participates in clinical research.
The APRN / PA should demonstrate an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical
competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general
communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing
professional development and competency validation.
Job Responsibilities :
Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician or
surgeon.
General Duties and Responsibilities :
- Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies.
- Educates and counsels patients.
- Performs minor surgical procedures.
- Performs First Assist duties in surgery.
- Assists with call.
- Renders emergency care.
- Facilitates patient referral to the appropriate physician or agency.
- Conducts research and drug studies.
- Prescribes medication in most states.
