Position: Special Education Paraprofessionals (classroom support role)

The Opportunity:
U Prep is seeking Special Education Paraprofessionals to provide one-on-one support to scholars with moderate to severe needs in the regular general education classroom. Specifically, Special Education Paraprofessionals will support between one and six scholars with moderate to severe needs by helping them work through regular or modified grade-level curricula in the regular education classroom. Paraprofessionals will work closely with the Special Education and grade level teams, gain hands-on experience working one-on-one with scholars, participate in school-wide professional development, and receive frequent feedback and coaching.

What you’ll do:
- Provide engaging, motivating, and supportive one-on-one support to students with more significant needs in the general education classroom, using plans and modifications provided by the grade level and Scholar Advancement (Special Education) teachers.
- Implement interventions (Tier 2 and Tier 3) aligned to behavioral and academic needs that children may have in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate regularly with grade level teachers and Scholar Advancement teachers regarding individual students’ progress and needs; provide data and anecdotal information on scholar progress during instruction.
- Communicate with families about their child’s ongoing progress, ensuring they are fully informed on the successes and challenges their scholar is experiencing
- When needed, participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings with colleagues and family members to provide additional information about the child’s performance in class, behaviors with their peers, and any areas of observed challenges along with successes
- Directly support the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system used school-wide through consistent implementation with scholars in classrooms where you are present
- Promote a warm, consistent and safe classroom culture by holding high expectations for all children during your time in classrooms
- Collaborate with other staff members to problem solve any challenges that are preventing scholars you work with from meaningfully engage in learning.
- If and when available, actively participate in school-wide professional development opportunities to develop knowledge and skills associated with establishing healthy classroom culture, delivering high quality instruction and responding effectively to data.
- Continuously use feedback to make productive changes in core responsibilities and overall performance.
- If and when available, participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year.
- Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines.
Position Requirements:
- Full commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission, vision and values of the school.
- Strong communication skills with a range of stakeholders (children, staff, families).
- Experience or familiarity working with students with special needs in an educational setting.
- Deep commitment to children who exhibit the greatest needs for support in order to access a rigorous education
- Openness to feedback, desire to continue developing as a professional, and willingness to take responsibility for scholar outcomes (behaviorally and academically).
- Ability to maintain optimism and a solutions-oriented mindset in the face of adversity.
- High school diploma or equivalent (at minimum).
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
Compensation & Benefits:
- The annual salary range for this role is $25,000-$31,000 per year, depending on experience.
- Participation in the Colorado PERA retirement program, including a PERA 401K
