Duties
- Processes hydrographic and topographic data for use in volumes and drawings. Ensures the correctness of all data prior to turn-in for review.
- Adapts to changing conditions and goals. Ability to adapt as the requirements on any given day can be subject to changes.
- Creates Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings and volume reports from processed data for distribution to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and public access.
- Maintains complete and accurate files for all survey data. Maintains the file structure of the associated data on the USACE shared drive.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Position requires travel up to approximately 10% of the time. Travel will include and not be limited to construction and proposed project sites where surveying and data collection will occur while exposed to the elements.
- Work will include physical exertion in terms of walking, climbing, standing, sitting, lifting, and carrying objects up to at least 30 pounds.
- Should be comfortable working on vessel and working around water and must be able to swim to the standard of the American Red Cross Level II Primary Skills (basic floating techniques and free style swim, etc.) or equivalent certifications.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certifications.
- Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: On year of specialize experience which includes 1) Working in land/hydrographic surveying; 2) Drafting field data collection and knowledge of principals of hydrographic surveying and acoustic based survey methods; 3) Experience with drafting and volumetric calculations with hydrographic data to set up projects from start to finish with little input from supervisors or higher graded personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
