About the Position : The US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Operations and Readiness Division is actively soliciting applicants who are seeking full-time seasonal positions. This position is located in Lavalette, WV at Beech Fork Lake.

Duties

Advise visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper use of recreations facilities.

Develop and conduct interpretive talks and guided tour programs.

Inspect facilities and check for compliance with rules and regulations.

Collect cash receipts (user fees) and deposits in a designated depository.

Prepare displays for posting on project bulletin boards.

Conduct on-foot and motorized patrols of project land and water ways.

Investigate stream pollution due to logging, mining and manufacturing processes, etc.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Required to successfully complete a pre-employment Physical Examination.

May be required to complete a pre-employment drug test.

Required to possess and maintain a current state driver's license.

Required to obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license.

May be required to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.

Required to obtain and maintain citation authority.

Required to wear and maintain the appropriate uniform.

May work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to boat / foot patrol, surveillance of project, various inspections.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and / or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-05 :

Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and / or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education : Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement / police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
