Probabilistic Analysis / Computational Statistics / Compound Hazards Position
- Experience with probabilities and statistics is required. This includes exceedance probabilities, probabilities of a storm, and stochastic methods. Education or experience with coastal and / or inland flooding and hydrometeorology is a plus.
- Experience applying and improving statistical techniques, joint probability methods, and machine-learning approaches.
- Experience and / or willingness to cross interdisciplinary specialties in the areas of inland flooding, coastal flooding, and atmospheric sciences would be beneficial. This includes probability analysis, machine learning, storm climatology, database management, civil engineering, and coastal engineering.
- Knowledge or willingness required to become an expert on storm climatology and atmospheric characterization of extreme storm events.
- Candidate should have strong skills in applying foundational concepts of probabilities and statistics to assess the frequency, severity, and uncertainty of hazards.
- Programming and software development skills : proficiency in MATLAB and / or Python is required.
- Experience in project and / or task management; Capable of performing functions as a Principal Investigator.
- PhD highly preferable; Master’s degree at a minimum.
- Related job titles include : Research Civil / Coastal / Risk Engineer, Research Mathematician, or Research Physical Scientist.
- Technical tasks consist of performing probabilistic coastal hazard analyses, stochastic simulations, probabilistic modeling, technical writing, and communication.
