Duties
- Develop lesson plans for Fire Prevention Training.
- Develop visual aids for fire prevention and safety classes using standard office automation equipment and software.
- Manage the departmental training program to ensure all firefighter training requirements are met.
- Coordinate and administer drivers’ training program.
- Administer department fitness program to comply with physical requirements.
- Respond to emergencies during duty hours in order to observe deficiencies in procedures or techniques requiring correction through follow-on training.
- Deliver comprehensive training to achieve Department of Defense (DoD) Certification across all levels of Firefighter Certification requirements.

- Must wear protective firefighter gear weighing up to 100 lbs.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Incumbent must report to work during inclement weather, natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by Fire Chief and may be subject to mandatory overtime or recall.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must participate in DOD physical fitness program.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of experience which includes:
- Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade;
- Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards;
- Controlling hazardous materials incidents; and
- Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Selective Placement Factor: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Your answers to the questions in this section will indicate your understanding of, or possession of, these requirements.
Maximum Entry Age (MEA)
- The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions.
- An employee who previously served on a covered position may be rehired past the MEA as long as he/she is able to complete 20 years of covered service by his/her mandatory retirement age. The maximum re-entry age for the individual is calculated by determining the total amount of time he/she has served on a covered position and subtracting that from age 57, if a firefighter. The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position.
- MEA may be waived, but only under specific circumstances and only if approved by the authorized entity: Waivers to MEA for firefighters must be approved by local Command.

- Certifications: In addition to Specialized Experience, this position requires Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO Board) professional certifications in accordance with the DoDM 6055.06 and position description.
- This position requires you to possess and maintain DoD, IFSAC, or PRO Board Fire Service Instructor Level III, Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Material Incident Commander Certification. NOTE: You must attach copies of the certifications to your application.
- Additional Certification Requirements: This position requires you to possess and maintain certification as a state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician at basic level or higher.
