This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA of Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position : Serves as Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector with 406 ASFB, Logistic Readiness Command located at Ft Jackson, SC in the Maintenance Division Responsibilities Make repairs and modifications to mechanical equipment such as heavy mobile equipment and various grounds related equipment. Analyze malfunctions and determine the extent of repairs needed by visual and auditory examinations. Identify and replace defective components, such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards. Maintain records of repair and maintenance and submits required documentation for maintenance. Conduct inspections of heavy mobile equipment. Use specialized testing equipment and hand tools of the trade. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply : US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) : Ability to do the work of a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC INSPECTOR ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector duties. I can determine the cause of malfunctions and troubleshoots mobile equipment for repair. I use specialized testing equipment such as compression testers, motor analyzers, torque wrench and hand tools. I maintain records of repair and maintenance and submits required documentation for maintenance. I drive various vehicles to and from the work site in order to transport self, supplies, and other employees. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Physical Effort - Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lift and carry items, unassisted, weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. Frequently lift and move heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. Working Conditions - Works both inside and outside. When inside, frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise that is difficult to talk above. When outside, is exposed to bad weather, works in mud or snow and in wet or icy areas. Either inside or outside the employee is exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes. Typically works on parts and systems, which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, and protective clothing. Some safety equipment may be hot and uncomfortable and is required to be worn for long periods of time. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial / probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
