Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) connects the military community—service members, military spouses, and veterans—with American businesses to create economic opportunity and a strong and diversified workforce. HOH is a workforce development initiative of the 501c3 arm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
Position Overview:
The manager of Special Events and Operations is responsible for the efficient execution of all Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) internal and partner events, including HOH Advisory Council meetings, the awards gala, and community engagement. The incumbent will serve as a white glove liaison between external stakeholders, HOH staff, and U.S. Chamber teams. The incumbent will also assist with the daily operations of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the logistics of special events, including securing and coordinating venues, catering, AV, registration, and collateral Special events include HOH council meetings, community engagement, external tradeshows and HOH-sponsored strategic partner functions.
- Assist with speaker outreach management to ensure that speakers are prepared for events via written talking points and planning calls. Provide all speakers with event logistics and agendas prior to arrival.
- Ensure that the audience experience is prioritized for events
- Develop event communication plans to include pre- and post-event drafts and email schedule.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for speakers, HOH ambassadors, HOH staff, and VIP guests.
- Provide event support across the organization, including booking meeting rooms, catering, and AV production.
- Maintain project plans and SOPs in the organization’s knowledge management systems and protocols.
- Track and manage the special events budget and contracting requirements for vendors and partners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant media, corporate events, or hospitality experience.
- Effective communication and presentation skills and the ability to forge strong, trusting relationships with clients.
- Meticulous attention to detail and superior organization.
- Ability to manage complex and fast-changing portfolios of work and prioritize effectively in response.
- Creative and strategic thinking with emphasis on customer service to meet clients’ objectives.
- Strong negotiating, contracting, and budgeting skills.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a track record showing initiative and ownership of work.
- Proficient with collaboration tools like SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Full event program life cycle and project management experience preferred.
The salary range for this position is $60,906.00 to $80,000.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
