OVERVIEW
The Instructor, Childcare is responsible for assisting the director and other childcare staff with designated activities, the creation of a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of the children with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
This position is On-call, with a minimum of 17.5 hours a week with core hours taking place Monday through Friday from 2:00PM to 5:30PM daily.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards;
- Implementing curriculum, completing lesson plans, and providing activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children;
- Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets;
- Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages the learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies;
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner;
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
- Availability to work on a variable schedule;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff;
- Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs;
- Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment;
- Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people; and
- Good sense of humor and pleasant, diplomatic manner is desired.
