This position is a permanent appointment.

  • SAN DIEGO SECTOR (San Ysidro, CA)
  • TUCSON SECTOR (Tucson, AZ)
  • YUMA SECTOR (Yuma, AZ)

Joining the Customs and Border Protection in the U.S. Border Patrol will allow you to use your expertise to support Border Patrol Agents with humanitarian care and intake processing of detainees and provide other clerical/administrative support to agents and other Agency personnel.

This position has a salary range of $36,118.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $52,341.00 (GS-06, Step 10).

As a Border Patrol Processing Coordinator, your duties will include:

  • Receive and process custody of detainees; maintain well-being of detainees outside of a secure complex; inventory, tag and store detainees' personal property for tracking purposes;
  • Transport detainees to proceedings and medical facilities, which may require operating a passenger shuttle bus;
  • Communicate in the Spanish language; maintain contact with other sectors, stations, agencies and foreign consulates and make arrangements for removal procedures, travel and escorts;
  • Log the status of welfare checks of occupants, conduct visual inspections of temporary holding areas and input information into the appropriate processing system;
  • Draft and maintain administrative paperwork and reports related to property, transportation, and deportation documentation

  • CBP follows the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures
  • Must be able to qualify with and maintain proficiency in the use of firearms to protect and defend self and others
  • Spanish language proficiency is required for this position
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a commercial driver's license

You qualify for the GS-5 grade level if your supporting documentation shows you possess one of the following:

Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Utilizing standard computer tools such as Microsoft Office to create basic reports, spreadsheets and presentations;
  • Assisting in applying policies and practices to safely and legally manage stressful situations and make sound decisions when dealing with tight deadlines or hostile or violent individuals;
  • Maintaining sensitive personal information while assisting with daily assignments including answering incoming calls for information;
  • Communicating orally and/or in writing to respond to routine requests for basic information; OR

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite can be substituted for specialized experience. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45-quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school; OR

Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of successfully completed college education AND specialized work experience. This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial college transcripts submitted with your application.

You qualify for the GS-6 grade level if your supporting documentation shows you possess one of the following:

Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Utilizing computer systems to analyze data, complete administrative reports and maintain logs by inputting information regarding file transfers, welfare checks and arrest information;
  • Assessing situations and applying training to manage hostile and dangerous situations;
  • Utilizing processing systems to document custody of individuals including inventorying and storing property and currency;
  • Independently responding to requests for information and composing written reports, information papers, policies/procedures, and other complete documents.

There is no education substitution at the GS-06 level.
