Job Description
The attorney filling the vacancy will be employed by the City of Spokane Prosecutor’s Office and will be cross designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney through a partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Salary and benefits will be paid by the City of Spokane. The attorney will work in the United States Attorney's Office and City of Spokane Prosecutor’s Office in Spokane. This position will be assigned a variety of narcotics and other drug related criminal cases. The attorney will be embedded full time within the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
This is a non-federal position. The employer is the City of Spokane Prosecutor’s Office. The terms, conditions and salary of this position will be determined by the City of Spokane. The cases handled by the Special Assistant United States Attorney will be those that arise within the territorial limits of the City of Spokane, the largest metropolitan area within Eastern Washington and the second largest city in Washington State.
Qualifications
Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction),and have at least two years of post-J.D. experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Applicates will be required to complete a Federal background investigation to include credit and drug testing.
Preferred qualifications: Hiring preferences include federal or state criminal trial experience, although we consider applicants with a variety of litigation backgrounds that demonstrate analytical ability, judgment, and advocacy skills. Experience in gang and drug trafficking investigations and prosecutions, including complex investigations, is preferred. Candidates must possess a strong academic background, superior legal writing and research ability, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Finally, preferred candidates must possess the ability to manage large, complex investigations and prosecutions. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability think on their feet and be able to function in high pressure environment when needed.

- Note: You must become a member of the Washington State bar within 18 months of appointment as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Spokane City Prosecutor. If you are a member of the bar in any jurisdiction other than Washington, you may apply for admission on motion without examination to membership in the Washington bar so long as the bar to which you are a member has comity with the State of Washington.
